HIPSTER HOP X GANGSTER RAP = ATL RMX
or nearly a decade now, Adult Swim has brought anime and absurdist humor to stoned college kids everywhere. The Adult Swim folks have also done their share of toe-dipping into the music world, getting behind records like Danger Doom's The Mouse and the Mask and releasing their own free, downloadable mixtapes like Warm & Scratchy and Definitive Swim.
For the latest free mixtape, Adult Swim has teamed up with Beaterator, Rockstar Games' new Timbaland-backed music mixer game. The mix is called ATL RMX, and you can download it today over on the Adult Swim website.
On ATL RMX, various abstract beat-music types like Hudson Mohawke, SALEM, and Dam-Funk (as well as wild cards like HEALTH and Memory Tapes) remix tracks from Atlanta rappers like Young Dro, OJ Da Juiceman, and Playboy Tre. So if you've ever wanted to hear Gucci Mane's playfully blunted drug talk mixed with Flying Lotus's playfully blunted squiggles, now's your chance. Also of note: Prefuse 73 chops up Shawty Lo's horn-funk banger "Dey Know", and Young Jeezy gets the El-P treatment. Worlds collide!
Spank Rock producer Armani XXXchange's version of Cee-Lo's "Hello Miss" and Dabrye's take on Good Time Guys' "Is That You God?" will be available for your own remixing via Beaterator.
Check below for the tracklist.
ATL RMX:
01 Young Jeezy: "I Got This (El-P Remix)"
02 Rich Kids: "Patna Dem (Mad Decent Patna's Remix by DJA)"
03 Dem Getaway Boyz: "Imma G (Memory Tapes Remix)"
04 Good Time Guys: "Is That You God? (Dabrye Remix)"
05 Young Dro: "Take Off (Michna Remix)"
06 Cee-Lo: "Hello Miss (Armani XXXChange Remix)"
07 Lil Jon: "Give It All You Got [ft. Kee] (Danger Beach Remix)"
08 Gucci Mane: "Photoshoot (Flying Lotus Remix)"
09 Gorilla Zoe: "Lost (Starkey Remix)"
10 Shawty Lo: "Dey Know (Prefuse 73 Remix)"
11 Kollosus: "Breakin' Bread (Phaseone Remix)"
12 Pill: "Lookin' (Chris Devoe Remix)"
13 B.o.B.: "Satellite (Hudson Mohawke Remix)"
14 Playboy Tre: "Sideways (SALEM Drag Chop Remix)"
15 OJ Da Juiceman: "Good Night [ft. Gucci Mane] (HEALTH Remix)"
16 Lil Jon: "Give It All You Got [ft. Kee] (Drums of Death Remix)"
17 Hollyweerd: "Have You Ever Made Love to a Weerdo? (Dam-Funk Remix)"

DJ Treats & Supreeme mixtape
via Supreeme
Check out some of our best material plus a few other big tunes collected by our homie DJ Treats.
Here's the fancy press release to get the full story:
“All across the atlas, any demographic…” The multi-culti audience of DJ Treats is witness to his new partnership with the torchbearers of Atlanta rap’s future, Supreeme. The opening statement describing their diverse sensibility declares the union, inspired by the first song on Supreeme and Treats' untitled mixtape. The 23-track compilation, split between the lyricism of Negashi Armada, and stellar production by Tom Cruz is a crash course in the most underrated of rap’s freshmen.
While Supreeme’s debut precedes the current era of Internet hype, they are relatively new artists. Mickey Factz (GFC-NY) shared a stage during the nascent stages of both of their careers. Then at the Atlanta Indie Fest 2009, their paths crossed again, this time, with DJ Treats backing them up for their respective performances. Yet the newbie tag conflicts with their catalog of material leading up to their re-introduction with DJ Treats. In Supreeme’s six year run, they’ve amassed: three studio albums—Church & State, Supremacy, their officially distributed LP (via Record Collection, 2006), Silver Medallion; a mixtape in 2007, American Baddass; a greatest hits LP dubbed Bronze Medallion; and the long-awaited major label release with Warner Bros., Gold Medallion. This year marks a fresh start for the duo, especially since the recent departure of former member, King Self.
Having been familiar with Supreeme’s track record since working with Negashi as an intern at Complex magazine in 2005, Treats had intentions of cementing their name amidst New York’s established skateboarding brand by the esteemed James Jebbia. DJ Mick Boogie and DJ Treats enlisted the Atlanta natives eventually when their Complex-sponsored collaboration, Leaders of the New Cool gave exposure to hip-hop’s new wave of talent. Supreeme’s supply of “Roni,” and a freestyle outtake outshined the competition. Next, on Treats’ Sneaktip All-Stars mixtape, he leaked “Laying Around” where Tom Cruz and Negashi traded scandalous tales of trifling women, backed by trippy synth chords.
While Untitled by DJ Treats and Supreeme is predominated by the group’s existing material, it’s important to note that many of the reggae-tinged songs from early in the group’s recording fit in with today's hybrid of dancehall and electronica. Tom Cruz, also of Jamaican descent, cites obscure roots/reggae records, along with Neil Young’s “Hey Hey, My My” for his educated beats. Treats pairs Supreeme’s sound with the warped reggae arrangement by Major Lazer (“it” DJ/producers Diplo and Switch), and rave-friendly jungle/drum and bass remixes.
As anticipation builds for the next studio album by Supreeme, DJ Treats gives a preview of new material to appear on Gold Medallion. Most of the album which was recorded with King Self before his exit from the group, also features guest appearances by Taz Arnold of Sa-Ra fame, Supreeme affiliates Killer T, Akim Allah, and underground rhyme animal Murs, who brokered Supreeme’s record deal with Warner Bros. Get a taste of Supreeme’s latest and greatest after downloading the mixtape below. Enclosed in the download is also the Untitled .GIF file to be opened using Quicktime, which will alternate the psychedelic colors of the Rorschach cover art (courtesy of In Stereo Design).

Geoff Barrow (Portishead) on John Sharp
Sad to hear about death, but even worse that most probably did not know or recognize John Sharp's contributions, myself included. Especially since Massive Attack's Blue Lines album is considered a classic IMO.

John Sharp 1964 – 2009
I was lucky enough to work with John over a few years. I first met him when he was producing and writing Blue Lines with Massive Attack at the Coach House when I was a tea boy: later I got to know him as a friend and a mentor.
The enormity of his influence and ideas on British music is sadly never likely to be acknowledged.
His influence on me was ginormous and he will be missed.
Our thoughts are with his family.

Tim Dog & Kool Keith: Project X >>> Iconic
Looking at the cover of this, some might question whether to attempt listening to this, since Keith puts out so many albums.
Must say entertainment and enjoyment value were high for this one. Tim Dog is the star of this album and rhymes hard and drops some funny lines.
The production on this one is decently done; unfortunately it doesn't push boundaries like 4 Horsemen and Dr. Octagon, but that was expected.
They describe what the album's about in the interview below.

Myka 9, Ab Rude, Eydea, Mister Fab + more SXSW cypher!
The days of the heated cyphers have long been dead, so this is kinda nice to see, reminds me of the 90's. Even Eyedea looks like the white dude who can rap, but doesn't really have that ghetto aggression to instantly gain the Black dudes respect.
Remember those days? Those were the days and now these are the days...

Maker
Maker, the guy interviewed at the beginning of this blog, has not been mentioned lately. He has been doing what you guess he would be doing, making those beats that we can never get enough of. He guests on Rob Wonder's - No Static At All - Radio show.
He shares some rare tracks and his "International Players" remix is mega fucking beautiful. "Days Gone By" remix follows, dubbed out for maximum tree enhanced auditory pleasure, and some dope Glue tracks - "Goodbye" and "1970".
Also swing through his blog Shoot Breeze where he shares music and thoughts.
